What Job Did Michael Scott Get in Colorado

The Office: What Happened To Michael Scott After Season 7

Steve Carell played Regional Manager Michael Scott in seven seasons of The Office. So what happened to the lead character after he left in season 7?

Here's what happened to Michael Scott after the character exited The Office in season 7. The Regional Manager of the Dunder Mifflin Scranton branch, played by Steve Carell, notably left Pennsylvania to move to Colorado with his future wife, Holly Flax (Amy Ryan). Michael returned in the series finale to attend Dwight and Angela's wedding, providing insight into the character's fate.

Despite the messes he caused during his time working in the office, Michael proved himself as a loyal employee and a better friend, yet it was clear that he needed something more in life than just a career. Michael had many failed romances but his connection with Holly was special. She returned to work at Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch in The Office season 7, and later Michael and Holly began dating and he officially proposes in the episode "Garage Sale". It was also revealed that Michael planned to move with Holly to Colorado so she could help care for her parents. Michael's exit was due to Carell's departure from the series, which eventually happened in the season 7 finale, "Goodbye Michael".

Luckily, that wasn't the last of Michael's arc in The Office. Just because he left Dunder Mifflin, it didn't mean he escaped the paper industry. Following Michael's move to Colorado, it was presumed he would find a new job after he settled into his new life with Holly. Following the character's departure from the show, Colorado governor John Hickenlooper sent out a press release appointing Michael as Director of Paper Distribution in the Department of Natural Resources. There's no word if Hickenlooper's successor, Jared Polis, followed along with the fictional gig.

Carell reprised his role as Michael for a surprise appearance in The Office's series finale when Jim set up a plan so that Michael would return to be the best man at Dwight and Angela's wedding. He didn't have many lines during the episode but Pam revealed that Michael had kids and he needed two phones since he had so many pictures of them. According to the follow-ups by NBC since the show's conclusion, Michael and Holly had three children and a fourth was on the way shortly after the finale.

Michael surely got the chance to live out his dreams of having a family after he moved to Colorado. That's not to say that his time in Scranton wasn't memorable, but he needed to follow Holly in order to be truly happy. The Office was never the same after Michael left, he was the face of the series after all, but it was a brilliant decision to feature the character one last time in the final episode to give viewers the closure they needed.
